A love affair with hats

Yesterday I saw someone wearing a hat. But not a straw hat or those boater hats that are really popular in Japan; an old-fashioned Jackie O-esque hat. And I thought, 'how wonderful'! Which brings me to the adorable Hannah Metz (who you might recognize from the blog hannah and landon) who, like me, has a love affair with hats. And pulls the look off quite nicely.

I wish people dressed up like they did back in the '50s, with hats and gloves and lavish dresses. What era(s) do you like?

I am happy.

Because it's starting to feel like summer. And I like summer. A lot.
I am happy.
I am happy.
I really really like these pictures by nikoline. I don't know why because it's not my usual style, but I think it's the scenery that really makes it. They're also candids. Sometimes I think candid photos come out the best.

I had a glorious weekend, surrounded by family and friends. I also got to wear my pretty pretty headband made by Lauren of Blooming Leopold (thanks heaps, lauren! i got tons of compliments!). Hope your weekend went just as well!

Gosh, I need some pretty redheads to take pictures of. Actually I just need models in general. You know those two shoots I was talking about doing this month? Well, they got postponed until next month. Oh, the joys of relying on 4+ people and trying to pick dates that work for all of us.

Anyhoodle I ordered myself a wireless remote to try to take some self-portraits. I don't know about you, but I honestly just don't like self-portraits. I always feel so... I don't know... awkward, weird in front of the camera. But I will try since I seem to be the only reliable model.

So enough complaining from me! Let's talk about something happy. I'm going thrifting again today (yay!). I know I've been bad about sharing my goods from my other thrifting extravaganza, but the weather's been junky so it's always dark inside and rainy outside and I'm having trouble coming up with ideas on how to take the pictures (in the house or outside, should I model the clothes or take pictures of them on the hanger, etc). I know, I know, excuses, excuses. Today I hope I find some pretty stuff again. And eventually, I will share it all with you guys. So stay tuned y'alls for sometime in the near future.

See you all on Monday! Hope you have a great weekend, whatever you're doing and wherever you are! Any exciting plans?

I am so in love with this song called Rainbows in Gasoline. (thanks, bleubird vintage, for introducing me!) I love the harmonies, I love the melancholic tone. Not to mention the singer behind this, Sean Lennon (along with his girlfriend Charlotte Kemp Muhl), is the son of John Lennon-automatic win in my book! I can definitely see the influence of his father's music in his own.

Can we talk about how much I love this picture? I don't even know what that light thing is but I've died about 100 times just looking at it. alskdjfalksjdf.

A dress a day

Hanging dresses on walls: pretty pretty pretty! Here are some lovely wall decor dresses I found on the interwebs:

This dress is so delightful and dreamy and gah, I love it! Here's a closer look:

Isn't she a beauty?

Okay, so I know I've blogged this picture before, but it is so lovely, it deserves a second go-around!

I am totally going to do this in my own room! Maybe to fill up the empty space of my incomplete wall collage. And I can change around the dresses I display every so often to freshen up the look without actually having to do much work a;lskjdflaksjasf perfect!!!

I saw this darling little girl's (or maybe it was a doll's...?) lace dress at a thrift store (but one of those, you know, high-end thrift stores so you actually don't end up saving that much money) which was far more money than I'd ever spend at a thrift store, but I think I might cave in and buy it. Or else try my bargaining skills. And maybe, since little girl's dresses are small and don't take up a lot of room, I could start a little girl's dress collage on my wall à la this room (except with more vintage-y, lace-y, sheer things). I'll just have to experiment and see what looks best. What do you have hanging on your walls?

Half Broke Horses

Half Broke Horses
Half Broke Horses
Half Broke Horses
After reading Half Broke Horses (which is a memoir written by jeannette walls about her grandmother's life growing up on a ranch) I've been quite intrigued by the prairie/farm lifestyle. I really love this look. In fact, I've actually had these pictures saved on my computer for quite some time without knowing the sources. And yesterday, I figured out where the pictures were from which made me very very happy. (sidenote: don't cha love that when you look forever to find the source of a pretty picture/drawing/whatnot and then you finally find it? i tell ya it's the greatest feeling).

Doesn't it look so Free People-y? Or maybe it's just me. At first, I thought this was from a Free People catalog, but no, it's by a photographer named Erica who photographed her two best friends, Alison and Rebekkah. Aren't they the cutest?

Floating roses in glistening waters

Some photos from my weekend:
Daisy Patch
A patch of daisies I found while walking my dog. Seriously, this is where I find all my nice photoshoot spots-by walking my dog around town! (took this picture through mah sunglasses woot woot!)

A beautiful sunset from my house:
Sunset
Annnnd I did a photo shoot with the dried up roses! (yay!) My mom kept teasing me, saying instead of 'still life photography' it was 'still dead'. Thanks for the support, mom! I pretty much died when I saw how the sunlight was reflecting on the water. Ahhh gorgeous. I hope you don't get bored with my constant ramblings about good lighting!
Floating roses
Dear Neighbor, if you are reading this, hello there! Didn't think your dead roses would show up on an inspiration blog, did ya? Better yet, didn't think someone would pick them off the side of the road and use them for a photo shoot?

Other things I did this weekend:
  • 12 mile (about 19 kilometers) group run along the beach
  • Had amazing AMAZING fried rice at this awesome restaurant
  • Polished my nails for the first time in months (and also discovered i'm the world's messiest nail polisher!)
  • Finished reading Half Broke Horses (which was really good, but not as good as the glass castle-the other book the author wrote-in my opinion)
  • Went to a dinner party with friends
  • Cleaned out my computer desktop (finally! i was starting to not be able to see anything on the desktop because everything was on top of each other! ahh i feel so organized now)

  • Tell me, what did you do this weekend?

Happy Friday, everyone! Hope your week went well.

Here's some home inspiration to carry you through the weekend:

Okay I cheated a little bit with this one ^^. This isn't a home, it's a picture of a flea market (most people don't have price tags on all their home furnishings & other items!), but I thought it was really pretty, so into the home inspiration post it goes!

Annnd this doesn't really fit in with the home theme, but I thought it was so cute, I had to post it:

Perfect for bad hair days... buns and ponytails, they cover up a multitude of sins!

My hair is so thick and long, when I wear it up high, it gives me a headache after a while :(

Looking at these hair pictures is so inspiring to try this on my own hair... and I need all the hair inspiration I can get because I'm trying to jazz up my hair a little bit. Anyone have good hairstyles for long hair?

P.S. I've been searching through the interwebs for this photo of 3 girls (models, I think) who are wearing top knots. If you know which photo I'm talking about (and it's source) please let me know!

How adorable are these Shabby Spring Tea Envelopes?! (I especially love the lace trim) Perfect for the teetotaler, perfectly festive & floral patterny for spring (well, spring if you're in the northern hemisphere!) Seriously, who comes up with the stuff? So clever. Mmm... this makes me want to craft so much! I might make these this weekend for some tea-loving friends.

Steps on how to make these can be found HERE.

There's something I love about abandoned houses. They have a certain beauty, sitting in their decay, something so alluring, haunting almost. Something that just begs to be photographed. I try to imagine what type of people used to live there and make up stories of their lives.

I saw an old barn while walking my dog on a trail last week and I am dying to go back and photograph it. Possible photo shoot location? Hmm...

On a side note, I found a bunch of dried up roses next to the sidewalk down the street from my house. I might collect them, then do a photo shoot with them. Is that too weird? They are just too good to pass up!

    Oh my darling

    Jewellery by Vanya
Pretty pretty jewelry from Jewellery by Vanya. This makes me want to do a photo shoot with my jewelry so bad.

You know when you really want to be creative, just craft, take pictures, sew, etc. but you can't find the time? I feel like I'm running as fast as I can just to stay in place. That's life for you, I guess. Hopefully I'll be able to create more of my own stuff soon.

P.S. Anyone catch my Alice in Wonderland reference?

    Another likely story

    Kelcie
    Kelcie
    Kelcie
Photos by me, of Kelcie. Tired of these yet? Haha. I know the last two are very similar, I just couldn't decide which one I liked better. Not sure if the color is too rich in the one on the right. Anyway, which do you like better?

I hope your weekend went well. I think I got some kind of eye infection (or maybe it was just allergies but I never get allergies so it was probably a weird eye infection) so my eye watered non-stop and got all crusty around the edges. Okay, so maybe too much information haha :) My dad said it was pink eye even though my eye wasn't pink, just watery and had all this goop accumulated around it. So I stayed in most of the weekend, blotting my eye every five minutes, drinking copious amounts of tea, reading, and trying to stay off the computer in general.

I made it out of the house one night to go to my favorite burger place, Barney's, with my mom and dad. I was going to take pictures of the food, but I forgot to bring my camera, so you'll just have to imagine what it looked like ;) Anywho I got a veggie burger with melted cheese, guacamole, alfalfa sprouts, tomato, pickle, and lettuce on whole wheat bread. It was so good. So if you're ever in the San Francisco area, do go to Barney's! And if you've been there before, isn't it so yummy? Nom nom nom.

Not too bad of a weekend, minus the eye infection, of course (my eye is back to normal now though! which makes me highly doubt it was actually pink eye. or maybe it was just a realllyy mild case). What were you lovelies up to this weekend?
