everything is illuminated.

"He awoke each morning with the desire to do right, to be a good and meaningful person, to be, as simple as it sounded and as impossible as it actually was, happy.

[bragirl.jpg]

And during the course of each day his heart would descend from his chest into his stomach.

By early afternoon he was overcome by the feeling that nothing was right, or nothing was right for him, and by the desire to be alone.

[together.png]

By evening he was fulfilled: alone in the magnitude of his grief, alone in him aimless guilt, alone even in his loneliness.

I am not sad, he would repeat to himself over and over, I am not sad.

As if he might one day convince himself. Or fool himself. Or convince other-the only thing worse than being sad is for others to know that you are sad.

I am not sad. I am not sad.

Because his life had unlimited potential for happiness, insofar as it was an empty white room.

[20090209213619.jpg]

He would fall asleep with his heart at the foot of his bed, like some domesticated animal that was no part of him at all.

[20090209120542.jpg]

And each morning he would wake with it again in the cupboard of his rib cage, having become a little heavier, a little weaker, but still pumping.

And by midafternoon he was again overcome with the desire to be somewhere else, someone else, someone else somewhere else.

I am not sad."

WOW! So many things to say...

...Let me start off with this:

I have gotten two awards (blushing).

One is from the ever so sweet Tina who I love so much for introducing me to Piksi:

I'll pass this on to:

The other award is from Textile Voltaire, owner of an awesome blog you guys should all check out:

It's the Unique and Chic award!
I've never seen this award before, which makes it extra special. I'll send this off to:

Please check out this video. This girl named Connie from the UK is only six years old and what a voice she has! She is sure to melt your heart, she is so cute. Don't you wish you could just reach into the computer screen, pluck her out, and put her in your pocket?

Also, this video is equally as lovely. It was on Intimate Vignettes (awesome blog, by the way) and I loved the video so much, I just had to share it with you guys. Such a clever idea.

Mila requested that I share my collage hanging on the walls of my room, so here they are:
(Sorry for the huge awkward shadows and low quality and darkness-I took these at night, when my one lamp was the only light. I might take better ones later)

The last one came out the best. You really have to look at better photos to see the collages better. They just look kind of crappy now. They look a lot better in person, I swear. These photos do no justice for them. Oh well...

And these are two collages I just finished:

I think I like the second one better...

While I was perusing through End of March's blog, I found these precious gems of beds. I'd like to have one of these, any one would be just fine with me...

This one reminds me of tents I used to make out of chairs and bed sheets when I was a little girl.

I just love the floral bedding and the gingham curtains. This room reminds me of the French countryside.

I love all the lace in this room. It reminds me of the 40's or else the Victorian era.

I think this is the coziest room ever.

I am in love with that mobile.

This might actually be my favorite picture. I love how the book is in the foreground and really clear, and everything is a bit foggy and blurry behind it. It reminds me when I used to stay up all hours of the night reading.

The last one is pretty cool too.

I love how not everything is perfectly in place. The messiness is what I find beautiful about all these. The covers and pillows are wrinkled and some of the beds aren't even made, but that makes it all the more pretty to me.

Which is YOUR favorite?

Also, as you all know if you have read my most recent post, I'm trying to execute my idea of taking all these photos and quotes from this blog and publishing it as a little book of inspiration. Since I get most of my photos from weheartit.com, you guys suggested I choose a couple of photographers and use their photos so that I can more easily keep track of all the people I have to credit. So...my dears. That's where you darlings come in. What are your favorite photographers that are my sort of style that would match really nicely with the whole theme of this blog? Something similar to Eleanor Hardwick, Sarah Hermans, that sort of thing. I'd appreciate you all to please help me out here and give me the name of at least one photographer. And if you are an amateur photographer and you think your photography would match nicely with my style, please contact me either through a comment or via my email, which is located on my sidebar.

Paseo a Manabí

flicka.

"High up on the long hill they called the Saddle Back, behind the ranch and the county road, the boy sat on his horse, facing east, his eyes dazzled by the rising sun.

It seemed like a personage come to visit; appearing all of a sudden over the dark bank of clouds in the east, coming up over the edge of it smiling;
bowing right and left; lighting up the whole world so that everything smiled back.
The snug, huddled roofs of the ranch house, way below him, began to be red instead of just dark;
and the spidery arms of the windmill in the Gorge glinted and twinkled.

They were smiling back at the sun."

"There was no warmth yet in the level rays of the sun, and the dawn wind was cold on the mountain side, so that Ken presently began to shiver in his thin dark blue cotton jersey.

He turned to face the wind, tasting somethings of freshness and wildness that went to his head and made him want to run and shout--and ride and ride--
to go on all day--as fast as he could and never stop--.

He was hatless, and the wind made a tousled mop of his soft straight brown hair,

and whipped color into his thin cheeks that had not yet lost the whiteness of winter school-days.
His face was beautiful with the young look of wildness and freedom, and his dark blue dreaming eyes."
~Excerpt from My Friend Flicka, by Mary O'hara. I've loved this passage ever since I could remember. Aren't her descriptions absolutely breathtaking? I sure wish I could write like that...

I have been tagged by Amanda and Heart in a Cage! This is a really fun tag:

Step 1: Respond and rework-answer the questions on your own blog, replace one question that you dislike with a question of your own invention, add one more question of you own.

Step 2: Tag eight other un-tagged people.

What are you wearing now? My green plaid PJ bottoms from my vacation in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire, my NYLON t- shirt that I got free with my subscription, and my hot pink slipper socks...I'm just about to go to bed.

What's the last thing you read/are currently reading? The Virgin Suicides...it's taking forever to finish because I'm so busy.

Do you nap a lot? I'm not much of a napper, but if I had more time, I'd sleep longer each night.

Who was the last person you hugged? My doggie, Aubrey (even though she's not a person).

What's your current obsession/addiction? White rimmed Ray Ban wayfarers.

Which item from your closet are you wearing most lately? It's been quite cold where I am lately, so I've been wearing a lot of wool peacoats and blazers.

What's for dinner? I just came back from an awesome Vietnamese/French fusion restaurant which is truly my favorite in the whole world!

What was the last thing you bought? 5 gum, the blue flavor, whatever it's called...it's my favorite flavor.

What are you listening to right now? The sound of me typing and the low hum of the furnace heating the house.

If you could have any super power, what would it be? Hmm...this is a real tough one because I'd want to be a lot of things...I guess either to have the power of invisibility or to be able to read minds...I can't decide.

What is your favorite weather, and why? Sunny, warm weather because I can go outside without having my hair get all frizzy like it does when it's damp and cold.

What time do you usually get up? On the weekdays, 6:30, on the weekends, 7:30-ish.

What is your most challenging goal right now? Finding time to do everything I want, and maintain a balanced life.

Say something to the person who tagged you: Thank you so much! I love your blog-it's so beautiful, like taking a peak into a dream.

If you could have a house-totally paid for, fully furnished-anywhere in the world, where would you want it to be? Gosh, I honestly do not know. I want to live in so many places, as pointed out by the extremely long list of places in my last post.

If you could have any magazine take photos of you for a photospread feature, which magazine would you choose, and why? Lula, because it reflects the same style as my blog. It's my favorite magazine in the whole world, as brought out in this post from an incredibly long time ago. Ah yes, the days of when my posts weren't so great and I got ecstatic if I got any more than 30 comments each post. We all have to start somewhere, don't we?

Name the things you cannot live without: Inspiration, my religion, my family, my friends, fashion, and many more things...I just can't think of them now.

It's a Friday night. Where are you? At a cozy little restaurant with a friend or two. After that, I'd probably be at home, either writing or creating a blog post or reading.

Since this is a really fun tag and a nice way to get to know all our bloggers, I am going to break the rules and tag anyone who's up to writing this!

Also, I officially have a new vintage icon:
Piksi, a girl from Finland "who studies veterinary medicine at University of Helsinki and loves dresses, thrifting, colorful shoes, and good food."

Here are just a few of my favorites from her that I guarantee you will fall in love with:

Via Luphia Loves... (an excellent blog which I totally suggest you check out)

Which is your favorite? I think I like the third to last one the best...it's really hard to choose though...

LJ from SOS! (Save Our Shoes) brought up a good point to me in her last comment. She asked if I had ever considered publishing a book of the things I post in this blog. And it's really ironic, because I had just been thinking of that...the thing is I want to take all my posts, and make them into one inspirational little book of quotes and photos. Well...what do you guys think? I like the idea, but the copyright issues pose many problems...do any of you guys know anything about what the copyright issues would be on using other people's quotes and photography? I'm hoping it's not too involved getting permission from everywhere...but the thing is for the photographs, I get most of them from weheartit.com, where I don't even know the photographer who took it...which is bad, very bad. It's going to make it impossible to track down where each of my photos are from...ugghhh...I really don't know what to do...but anywho...do any of you guys out there reading my blog right now have any connections with publishing companies or agents that you could hook me up with? I'm getting wayyy too ahead of myself now...I do that all too often...but you guys, please help me out here. I'm totally stuck. I don't know even the first step to take in publishing a book or copyright issues or everything I just wrote about.

Have a lovely weekend! I'm off to the city on a little trip with a few of my friends...
xoxo,
Micaela
