Neopolitan dreams

Melissa
Can I just say how much I love this photo?

This is by Emma Cherry (model is melissa), who I did a photoshoot with earlier this week. (photos from that coming next post!)

So long story short how we met:
Was browsing through Flickr and stumbled upon her photostream, saw she was from the San Francisco area, emailed her, found out she lived less than 7 minutes away from me, asked her if she wanted to go on a photo adventure, she said yes.

Oh interwebs, I love you so.

Just some photos I had saved on my computer from a long time ago aka early blogging days. It's interesting to see how your style changes, evolves, and as time goes on, even goes back to the original style somehow. I find these photos beautiful, but I also find myself looking at more and more fashion-y photography these days and I'm not sure which I like best.

P.S. The winner of the Abby Try Again giveaway is comment #53, Lynda of be simply happy. Congrats, Lynda! Please email me with your postal address so we can get your prize out to you :)

EDIT: If you didn't win the giveaway, fear not! Abby is offering a discount of 20% off in her Big Cartel shop until June 30, 2010, just type in "gypsy" at the checkout :)

The way I see it

This weekend was HOT around my neck of the woods. On Friday night, my mom and I went to Lyres and Lace, (thanks, katy for the tickets!) a fashion show in San Francisco.

Les outfit details:
My outfit
Shoes
Cardigan sweater: Hand-me-down from Grandma
Dress: Vintage, from Blooming Leopold
Coach satchel: Vintage, thrifted (from this thrifting trip)
Sunglasses (in my hand): Ray Ban
Shoes: Steve Madden
You can see the full outfit HERE.

We walked around Haight-Ashbury for a little bit, then headed over to Thorough Bread and Pastry for some pastry treats.
Macaroons
(my french macaroons!)

We hit up a few thrift stores too, but didn't find anything good. There was this cute polka dot dress I loved, but when I tried it on, it didn't fit right at all :(

I hope soon to go back to those thrift stores and give them more of a thorough searching.

I had in mind to photograph some strangers, but totally chickened out. I think it's best to do that kind of thing when you're on the bus/train/waiting somewhere/etc. when people aren't rushing off to wherever they're going. There was this adorable little girl who looked like a Margot at the fashion show, but the lighting was kinda dark and bad and I was afraid my camera would have trouble focusing in the bad lighting (excuses, excuses!), so I didn't ask to take her picture. I'm kind of disappointed that I let that opportunity pass by, but oh well. And btw, thanks for all the tips on taking pictures of strangers! I will definitely put these into practice :)

How was your weekend?

P.S. This was my first ever outfit post! Shall we have a celebration of some sorts? Or maybe I should ask do you even like the outfit posts?

Pictures of strangers

I want to take more pictures of strangers. There's something so exciting about approaching someone and asking to take their picture. And it's even better if they're super nice too ;) I'm loving these photos by Nirrimi (well actually any photo she takes is amazing, really) of strangers.
Pictures of strangers
Sometimes I see some really beautiful girls when I ride the train and am itching to take their picture, you know, totally not weird/creeper/stalkerish, right? haha ;) But then I hold myself back for some reason and shyness gets the best of me. Then I'm left kicking myself for not getting their picture. So that's my goal now: take pictures of strangers.

(this person didn't even know she took her picture! i love candid pictures)

Have you ever taken pictures of strangers before? I have a few times, awhile ago though. And it's actually really fun! The hardest part is getting the courage to approach them, and after that, all initial apprehensions seem to melt away.

amazing lovely pretty askdfasdf self portraits by sensing owls.
umm where can i get that lacey dress/shirt whatever it is?

Today I am attempting to sew my first skirt. After seeing all the lovely things Lauren has been making, I knew I had to try it too (let's try to forget last time i tried sewing i couldn't sew in a straight line). Last week, I picked out the fabric and the pattern and all that jazz and today I am going to start it. I am so excited to dive right in & see what happens (which will hopefully be something resembling somewhat of a skirt!) ;)

Aubrey in action

This doesn't have much relevance to the blog, but I thought I would post anyway just for fun.

This is what Aubrey does when me and my family are watching TV:

She's probably thinking, 'OH GOODNESS, I CAN'T SEEM TO GET AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE!!!'

    Dottie Angel

Some people make the most beautiful things and live in the most beautiful homes. Dottie Angel is no exception; I've just spent the past hour swooning over her flickr photostream.
